I just received this email soliciting 10-minute plays from teens for a contest at the Hartford Stage. Rather than our next scheduled assignment (screenplay), I thought we could all hammer out a play!
Update: The contest deadline has been extended to June 15!
It starts with an idea...
Send us your idea for a 10-minute play inspired by this year's theme. Include characters, setting, and as much of the story as you can - beginning, middle and end. If your idea is chosen, we'll help with the rest.
This year's theme is: Where Water Meets Land
What stories can be found where
two different worlds meet? Stories built on solid ground... Stories of sinking down... What happens when things collide? In the in-between, what mysteries hide?
mail it to Hartford Stage Education, ATTN: Write On! 50 Church Street, Hartford, CT 06103.
WRITE ON is open to all Connecticut residents between the ages of 13 and 19. You may enter as many times as you wish, but please, only one idea per entry form. Entries may be in English or Spanish.
* Please note: We will confirm all entries to the online form within 5 days of your submission via email. Questions? Give us a call at 860-520-7206.
Pick out one and read it and be ready to talk about it with the class. Look for how characterization, setting, the central problem, and the plot are revealed and used by the playwright to create an effective dramatic experience.
