This I believe…
I believe to never say never; to never give up hope. That positive thinking will bring people through the toughest of times. As a devoted athlete, positive thinking is crucial in order to be successful. No matter if it is a pick-up game, a whiffle ball game or game seven of the World Series. There is a story my dad and I always tell when someone is at an emotional low to get their confidence back up.
In the summer of 2005, Tri Town Little League Baseball began. My team, the Diamondbacks were inferior compared to the better teams in the league. We had no superstar, no giant homerun hitters or dominating pitching. What we did have was the right mindset. Every player on the team learned to see the glass as half full even after a tough loss. Everyone began to see the positive aspects over the negative ones in a game. When the play offs rolled around, the Braves were the obvious championship team with only two losses. They coasted through the playoffs into the Championship. The Diamondbacks on the other hand were the true and complete underdogs. No one expected this group of small town kids who did not have the most talent to make their way through the playoffs. The D-Backs found themselves down in the last inning of the first playoff game. When everyone thought all hope was lost, the Diamondbacks knew it was only beginning and maintained the desire and hope to come out on top. A double and single tied the game followed by another double that gave the lead to the Diamondbacks. With this lead came even more confidence and they found themselves past the first round of the playoffs. The second game was much the same. In a hole in the last inning again, the Diamondbacks did not lose hope. They pulled through with consecutive doubles and singles to win the second round of the playoffs. It all came down to a single game Championship between the highly favored Braves and the severe underdogs the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks surprised every fan at the field with yet another lasting inning win.
This win has inspired me to be a positive thinker and always see the bright side despite the situation. No matter the score, the inning, the team or the stakes, this event has taught me how to constantly believing in myself. Knowing that I can mentally make it through a game or season gives me the confidence that I can make it through life. I imagine that everyone thinks this way one day. When that day comes my goal will be fulfilled and I will remember the Diamondbacks. How we never gave up, how we believed in ourselves and the team and most importantly how we thought positively through the entire season. Seeing the silver lining has helped me through numerous obstacles and life and I always rely on it when I get down. This I believe.
