The five friends sat in a circle around an arrangement of tranquil scented candles and incents. The room was dimly lit, only by the light from the candles. They all held hands and attempted to summon the spirits living in the mysterious, old house. The teenagers expected the spirits to be the previous owners of Sarah’s house, a mother, a father, and a young daughter who all died in a terrible car accident in 1984. As they continued holding hands they began chanting,
"Blood of my blood, you spirits of love,
Come from below and from above;
Entities loving who wish me well,
Come to this circle when I sound the bell."

Sarah rang the shiny, gold bell three times. They immediately felt the temperature in the room drop greatly and a strong feeling of spirits being present. The friends began to use an Ouija board to talk with the spirits. They all placed two fingers on the planchette and Sarah began to speak softly, “Greeting Spirit, are you a good spirit or a bad spirit?” The planchette directed their fingers swiftly across the board and stopped at the bottom right corner. “Should we stop?” asked Grace, Sarah’s best friend. “NO! This is exciting!” Replied Sarah, even though the spirit was unkind they still felt the desire to go on with the eerie board game. With their unsteady fingers still on the planchette, Sarah asked the spirit, “What is your name?” The planchette moved their fingers over various letters along the board, spelling out Eric Spalding. Next, Sarah asked Eric how old he is. He answered fourteen years old. She then asked, “What year did you die?” Eric answered 1889. Sarah spoke quietly and her voice was shaky. She asked Eric, “How did you die, Eric?” Their fingers felt as if they were glued down to the planchette as it briskly moved across the Ouija board. They were unable to stop the game. Eric spelt out fire with the assist of the planchette and creepy board game.
The friends began to get chills from the mysterious spirit in the room but they could not stop playing the game. Eric would not release their fingers from the planchette. Sarah began to ask how the fire started but before she could get the words out of her trembling lips the room grew much lighter. All of the burning candles flames grew higher and higher. “What’s going on?” screamed Sarah. The planchette moved towards the bottom of the Ouija board where it spelled, Goodbye. The friend’s fingers were finally released from the planchette. They all got up and ran for the door but the door wouldn’t budge. They pleaded Eric to leave them alone, but he would not free them from the disturbed house. The enormous flames burning from the candle sticks torched the walls and floors of the house and began to start a fire. Eric wanted to actually show the teenagers how he died. They knew they were wrong to summon an evil spirit and now they have to suffer the consequences.
Along with the five unfortunate friends, Sarah’s parents and her beloved dog all died in the unexplained fire. The friends and family would have been able to escape the fire but Eric’s sinful spirit had control over the whole house and would not release them. Police and firefighters are still investigating this mystery, but no one will ever know about the spirit of Eric Spalding.
