The clicking of my heal smacking onto the pavement echoed into the shadows of the night. Few beams of light glistened down onto the street creating each raindrop to shimmer before exploding onto the ground. The drops of rain sounded as if minute missiles were being blasted into the sea during a battle. It was chilly, and wet. Water streamed down the side of my cap and then rippled down my coat. Closer and closer I became. It was almost midnight as I strolled back from a lonely evening at the bar. Rumors of this strange monstrous human being scattered between the townspeople and the visitors earlier that night. I eavesdropped to the slight hums of the beast that fluttered around the room. Some say that its seven feet tall and has deadly poisonous horns coming out of its back. Some say that its breath is so foul that one whiff of it is enough to fall over and die. Of course these are only rumors just to frighten people visiting the town. But this evil being is in fact real, no one has seen it, but it is out there… somewhere. The town, virtually in the middle of nowhere, was filled with mysteriousness that was hidden in every corner. This beastly human was one of these mysteries. The townspeople tried to avoid talking about it, until the recent discovery of a slaughtered man out on the streets about a week ago. People questioned whether this was a warning, and that all of the townspeople should escape the town and find new settlement.
I finally arrive at my destination. Opening the old tattered door into the darkness, I flip the light switch. The glow floods the old dingy, smelly room. I kicked off my muddy shoes and walked into my room, the floor creaking with every step I take. I lay in my old mattress that sat on the dirty floor. Thoughts of the beast spin through my head. All of a sudden I hear a loud strange noise. My eyes wide open. Trying to ignore the eerie high pitch sound I reached over on the ground to grab the bottle of liquor on the ground. I take a nice big swig of the sweet and bitter goodness, roll to my side, and fall asleep.
As the warm morning sun rises over the distant hills, sun ray beams shine though the blood stained window of my room. An awful stench flowed through, a smell even more wretched then before. I rub my eyes furiously in order to be able to see my surroundings. Realizing that I was covered in blood, I sprint over to my door and gaze out. It was a scene I have never witnessed in my life before. The entire street was destroyed. Few people are around the streets in tears, screaming and rushing to pack there things and leave. It was complete chaos. Blood was everywhere. Decapitated bodies everywhere. It looks as though they were flung out across the yards all down the street. The whole town was torn apart. A total of eight people were murdered that night, and that was enough of a reason for the rest of the townspeople to depart. The town emptied within minutes.
I am now completely alone. The town is utterly deserted. Window curtains and creaky doors swing in the wind. The noise of the wind rustles and shoves its way through everything and anything that was in the way. For some strange reason I felt the desire to stay in this horrid empty town. As if something about this incident is drawing me closer. I am not terrified, nor am I discussed. I feel this strange sensation. Flashbacks of what had happened the night before flash through my mind. The walk back from the bar, and entering my home. Then I knew, I remembered. I am the one. The butchery, the blood, the silent screams. I am the beast they all have been talking about. They didn’t know it was me, I didn’t know it was me. Until now. I am the beast.
