Drama is The Way of Life In a small, quiet town, nestled in the Midwest of Vermont, just before the beginning of Lake Champlain, twelve large brick buildings were sitting on a large plot of land; three were dorms each labeled for the people who inhabit them. A large wooden sign specifically labeled the college, “WELCOME TO GREEN MOUNTAIN COLLEGE HOME OF THE EAGLES!” The campus was covered in beautiful green grass and walk ways intertwined back and forth, trees were sprouting up towards the sky, their branches covered in buds; the ground was wet with the last rain that slowly washed away the snow from the last winter. Obviously, early spring had come, students were in their classes just itching and waiting for that bell to ring. The sun over head had risen to mid-sky, the moments had ticked by and the students became anxious.
The campus cafeteria looked like a church, with a high steeple that had a huge clock on it and a door way just underneath that led to absolutely no where. The inside was a hallowed out shell with tables sitting in lines, five lines of tables and twelve tables in each line. Outside, there was a small porch which had, give or take, five tables. There some students could sit and eat. Back inside there was a kitchen like area set up for people to slide through with trays to get their food.
As people slid through the line, one particular girl stood out. She was fairly pretty, also young. She had long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She didn’t quite look like she fit in. She wore clothing that had no brand name other than her shoes which were of high quality. She didn’t exactly look like she spent much time on her makeup though there seemed to be some on her face, she had a fair appearance, her face was round, her nose was small and she had fair pale brown eyebrows. Her ears were basically unnoticeable, hidden under the long blonde hair but her huge loop earrings were very pronounced. She wore torn up baggy jeans with a studded belt, and a tank top, she had Converse shoes that were all black, with pink shoelaces. There was doodling all over her shoes in silver sharpie ranging from what looked like signatures to small drawings and an occasional random word. She had a small black purse slung over her shoulder. She went straight through the line.
Behind her was a tall, lean muscular boy. He seemed to fit into a group – the prep group. He had short brown hair and scary bright blue eyes. He wore an American Eagle shirt and tight jeans most likely from PacSun. He had on Etnies and somewhat had a skater look about him to go along with his prep look. He had nothing of note other than one or two stray tattoos. He looked like he could be in his senior year, around the age of twenty-one. He leaned forward before they went their separate ways and kissed the girl on the cheek.
Right behind him was another male, one who was probably the scariest of the three in line. He had short black hair and prominently looked like he was wearing a bit of makeup. He seemed to be in the age range of maybe twenty-two to twenty-three. He had green-brown eyes and looked dangerously mean. His lip was pierced, his ears were gagged, he was covered in tattoos and his clothing seemed to be a mix of Hot Topic and PacSun. He had tight jeans and a tight black tank top that showed that he was muscular, maybe more so than the male in front of him.
The girl went outside and over towards the three dorms, her intentions were to go to the Gama dorm room. It was the least pristine dorm room, and the best hidden of the buildings. It had no marble to it, and no special architecture to the outside of it. It was just a plain brick building that stood about five levels high. Inside, the only people with their own rooms were the RAs. There was no elevator so the girl had to walk up four flights of stairs; she went down a hall to a room at the end labeled “SOFIA LA CRIOX - RA”. She opened the door then stepped inside and closed the door behind her, flopping onto a small uncomfortable looking bed.
Her room was not very well decorated. There was a wooden desk to the side along with a large closet and a bed. Sofia sat down on the bed and ate her lunch there; staring out the window that pointed in the direction of the cafeteria, the most noticeable thing being that the dorm had a direct view of the jocks. She seemed to stare out at the boy who had been behind her in the lunch line while she ate her food.
She opened her window and sat on the edge of it, turned sideways to see outside, the warm sunshine was raining down on her. She finished one piece of pizza and slowly began to shift around to head back into her room. She lost her balance however, and started to sway then fell out of the window. She grabbed hold of the window sill tightly. It was a four story drop if she fell. She heard someone yelling for her to let go. She looked down and there was the green-brown eyed male from the lunch line.
If she fell down, she’d hurt herself, or him. She stared down at him then looked up and tried to grip onto the window sill tighter. For a few minutes she felt her hand slipping, her body being dead weight, she thought she would fall into the now gathering crowd below. It didn’t take long, however, for a hand to grab hers and pull her in from above.
“I am such an idiot.” She muttered out loud. She looked over and her savior was gone. Her door was closed and he was simply gone. She curled up on her bed quietly and slightly angry with herself. She got up and threw away her food and shoved her tray in the garbage. She slammed her window shut and went to the door grabbing her bag thinking about heading into Rutland to go find something to do since she didn’t want to go to classes. She walked over and opened the door in a tired, depressed manner. She looked up and there stood the muscular band-rocker male. His eyes immediately stared down at hers. She attempted to move past him, only to end up walking straight into him and falling over.
“Has falling always been your style?” His voice was smooth, slick, deep. She tilted her head to the side and stared at him for a moment while he held her up.
“No… not regularly. Why?” Sofia glanced up at him and chewed her lip.
“Well you seem to lately. Falling out the window, now on the ground…” He nodded.
She rolled her eyes and tried to walk past him again but he pushed her back once more. She fell over and this time landed on the floor.
“Where you going?” The male asked; his eyes had this creepy curiosity about them.
“Umm… nowhere that’s your concern, get out of my way.” Sofia snapped.
The male didn’t budge, “This is the thanks I get for saving you?” he said calmly.
“What is your name again?” She asked now, with a blank expression.
“Wow… you really are a fire cracker Ms. La Croix.” The male laughed again, “And my name is Cadence Andretti. I saved your life, I was just wondering if I could borrow some of your time, does that make me such a bad guy?” He made a fake frowning face.
Sofia winced. “No it doesn’t, but I’m not going to let you have any of my time… Because I don’t like you, I have a boyfriend” she3 snarled at him.
“Oh really??” Cadence pushed past Sofia and sat down on her bed watching her with his arms crossed, he had a smug smirk on his face.
“Get out of my room!” She grumbled, unable to think of a good comeback.
“Why should I Ms. La Croix?” Cadence just moved further onto her bed and sat cross legged.
“Because I said so!” Sofia growled
“You’re very uptight you know that? You should probably relax.” Cadence said calmly.
“Well I don’t want to relax. I like being uptight.” Sofia hissed.
“I like you relaxed.” Cadence mumbled.
“Have you ever seen me relaxed?” She snapped in response.
“Yes; when you play your guitar.” Cadence glanced at the closet.
“You’re a creep you know that?” Sofia merely responded.
“I don’t see why you have a problem with me.” Cadence now sat up straight and stared at her.
“Well… well NEH!” Sofia couldn’t think of a comeback, again.
Cadence shifted, then frowned since she shifted and seemed to tense up. He sighed heavily, stood up, then walked towards the door, opened it, and abruptly walked out.
Sofia simply rolled her eyes and left her room heading for her car, she turned it on, and turned around looking behind her, ready to pull out. She screamed when she saw Cadence standing there. He walked up to the front of the car.
“What the hell are you doing?! I’m going to pull out! YOU ASS!” She screamed from her seat.
“I can’t let you Sofia…” Cadence frowned. “I would rather you stay here… and help me.” He muttered the last part quietly.
“Help you?” Sofia questioned, “Help you with… what?” She tilted her head to the side.
“I need your help…” He simply whispered then reached his hands forward.
What happened next, Sofia could never fully explain. His hands went straight through her car and he walked right through it. She shrieked then locked the doors of the car while staring at a dark mass that had formed. She put the car in reverse and hit the gas. The car slammed against the curb. She hit the break and jerked forward into her steering wheel. She looked to the right of her, and there, in the passenger seat, sitting in the car, staring at her with black morbid looking eyes, was Cadence.
She screamed again, reached for the door handle, and tried to unlock the door.
Isaac saw the crash, and ran over; he shoved open the door then pulled Sofia out. She hid her face against Isaac and just screamed in a horrified manner. He hugged her to him.
“What’s wrong?” Isaac whispered softly. “Are you okay sweetie??” He tilted her head up; her eyes were puffy and red.
“NO I AM NOT!” Sofia sobbed. “Cadence isn’t a…” she hid her face against his chest.
Isaac looked confused. “Cadence who?”
“Andretti,” Sofia whispered, her voice cracked.
“Cadence Andretti was a senior here last year, he died Sofia.” Isaac sounded puzzled.
“I… She could hardly talk. “He… he was solid! He was real! He saved me!” Sofia said in the most shocked voice.
“You climbed back in the window Sof,” Isaac shook his head, then took Sofia’s hand and gently led her along towards the Alpha dorm.
The building had six levels to it, was made of red brick and had Greek architecture to it. There were marble pillars on each corner. It was the most pristine on the campus, inside all of the rooms were huge like suites of a hotel. The building had a working elevator and students hardly ever used the stairs. The dormers each had their own bathroom and shower.
Nobody would believe her would they? Sofia would be put into a mental institution for sure if she tried to convince anyone she had seen a ghost. She decided it would be best to keep her mouth shut.
Within thenext day, as she drove to leave the college, going to a friend’s house nearby, she glanced back at the Cafeteria tower, and saw the ghost standing in the door way. She finally decided it would be in her best interest to switch schools.
